Herminio Cordido’s video report from the 15th Fiesta of the Air, held in the Orizaba Valley, Veracruz, Mexico, 6-8 May 2011. A paragliding festival, the weekend attracted over 100 paraglider pilots and is the biggest fly-in in Latin America. “Cheap beer, delicious food and good flying,” says Herminio.

Vail Valley Paragliding with the Drift HD170 Stealth

Team Drift goes paragliding for the day with Vail Valley Paragliding and a gang of HD170 Stealth’s and various monopods. Tandem paragliding is intense as you and your pilot have to pull this massive kite up into the air and the run off the mountain top, together! “it’s like dancing with a 500 pound partner” says our instructor. Once airborne, it’s a leisure as it gets for the passenger. We highly recommend this activity for any outdoor enthusiast.

Clouds and Paragliding on the Island of El Hierro

paragliding-island This year the concentration of paragliding on the Island of El Hierro was marked by clouds and a low ceiling, even so we could enjoy good flights. In this video I created time lapse videos of clouds with the Drift HD170 Stealth. While paragliding, we did some are “flirting”with the clouds.

El Hierro, nicknamed Isla del Meridiano (the “Meridian Island”), is the smallest and farthest south and west of the Canary Islands

Base Jumping POV with the Drift HD170 Stealth

Base Jumping POV action in Europe with the Drift HD170 Stealth Camera. These guys take their wing-suit’s to the limit by landing in trees, and nearly missing traffic and power lines. Watch to the end of the video to see the side Velcro helmet mount saves the jumper from getting tangled in his lines!

Base Jumping with a wingsuit adds surface area to the human body to enable a significant increase in lift. Modern wingsuit designs create the surface area with fabric between the legs and under the arms. A wingsuit may be referred to as a birdman suit or squirrel suit.

The wingsuit jumper wears parachute equipment designed for base jumping. The jumper deploys the parachute at a planned altitude and unzips the arm wings, if necessary, so they can reach up to the control toggles and fly to a normal parachute landing.
