Upgrade instructions
- Download only the latest version of the firmware.
- Copy the downloaded file to the root of an empty and formatted SD card. Do not rename the file (Important.)
- Insert the SD card into the camera and power on the camera. Ensure the camera has sufficient power so the upgrade doesn’t fail half way.
- Select the “Firmware Update” item from the firmware menu, and confirm.
- Cursor to the check mark and select to confirm.
- The LED on camera will blink during update. Once complete camera will turn off (Some units of X170 may automatically turn back on.)
- Turn the camera back on and verify that the firmware version has been updated.
- Reformat your SD card again within the camera Tools Settings.
Drift X170 Firmware Upgrades
LATEST VERSION 1.0.19 (23 Mar 2011) Fix issue with muted video if speaker volume set to off.
1.0.17 Remove stealth mode; fix some bugs with sequence record mode.
1.0.16 Change audio codec to MP2, remove explicit frame rate setting (dependent on PAL/NTSC instead), add photo sequence mode, disable autodeleting of files that the camera does not recognize.
1.0.14 Reduce maximum exposure setting that would corrupt the video in very bright conditions, center image on all aspect ratios, make the firmware more resilient against bad SD cards, add stealth mode, correct aspect ratio so we don’t stretch the image.

2nd Generation X170
LATEST VERSION 1.1.21 (23 Mar 2011) Fix issue with muted video if speaker volume set to off.
1.1.20 Fixes “split screen” issue in 1.1.19.
1.1.19 Tune BPC parameters due to production issues.
1.1.12 Improved image quality, fixed a bug with pause and rewinding, adjusted low battery shutoff threshold to improve reliability.

Third Generation X170
2.0.23 Third generation hardware, functionally same as 1.1.21
SPECIAL PATCH FOR 3RD GENERATION X170′s with serial numbers ranging from J0594 to J4060 must be patched with the special version 2.0.25 This fix was made only for this batch of cameras, we must be clear that your camera can be permanently damaged in case your unit does not belong to that production batch. The firmware does not feature any other improvement for the cameras.
2.0.25 Third generation hardware, functionally same as 1.1.21, MJPG bug fixed. ^^READ WARNING above^^
Notes
- Ensure that the upgrade process is not interrupted. If the process is interrupted the firmware on the camera may be corrupted and the camera has to be returned to the factory for repair.
- On the X170, the “Firmware update” option will not appear if the firmware file size is incorrect. The 1.0.x series and 1.1.x series firmwares are for different production lots and cannot be intermixed (the firmware has different size)
