How to Use the Drift Life App with Drift X5 Series Action Cameras

Overview

The Drift Life App is designed to work seamlessly with Drift action cameras, including the X5 Series, providing an intuitive mobile experience for everyday recording, content creation, and live streaming.

With the Drift Life App, you can:

  1. View real-time camera previews directly on your smartphone
  2. Control camera functions remotely, including recording and photo capture
  3. Adjust shooting modes and camera settings
  4. Browse, preview, and download recorded footage to your mobile device
  5. Enable custom live streaming by connecting to any platform through an RTMP URL

 

Operation Guide

Install the Drift Life App

  1. Open the Google Play Store or Apple App Store on your smartphone.
  2. Search for “Drift Life”.
  3. Download and install the application.

 

Enable Wi-Fi on Your X5 Series Camera

  1. Power on your X5 Series camera.
  2. Press and hold the Wi-Fi button to activate the camera’s built-in Wi-Fi hotspot.

Important Reminder:
If you previously used another Drift application, such as the Drift See App, you must first format the camera’s memory card before enabling Wi-Fi on the X5 Series. This will remove previous app connection data stored on the card.

 

Connect Your Smartphone to the Camera Wi-Fi

  1. Open your smartphone’s System Settings > Wi-Fi.
  2. Find and select the camera Wi-Fi network, X5-xxxxx-5G
  3. Enter the default Wi-Fi password: 1234567890

    Tap connect to finish the connection process.

 

Control Your X5 Camera Through the Drift Life App

  1. Open the Drift Life App.
  2. Tap the Camera button on the homepage to enter the live preview interface.

From this page, you can:

1)      View the camera’s live video feed

2)      Start and stop video recording remotely

3)      Capture photos remotely

4)      Browse recorded videos and photos stored on the camera

5)      Preview and download videos/photos to your smartphone

6)      Adjust camera settings and shooting parameters

 

Set Up Custom Live Streaming via RTMP

The Drift Life App supports custom RTMP streaming, allowing you to broadcast live video to platforms such as YouTube, Facebook Live, and other streaming services.

  1. Open the Drift Life App homepage.
  2. Tap Live Streaming.
  3. Tap the “+” (New) button in the top-right corner.
  4. Select your camera model.
  5. Enter the Wi-Fi information for the external network that your camera will use for streaming.

You can use either a standard Wi-Fi network or your smartphone’s mobile hotspot

Wi-Fi Name Requirements:

The Wi-Fi name (SSID) can only contain letters and numbers and Special characters are not supported

  1. After entering the Wi-Fi information, the App will automatically generate a QR code.

On your X5 Series camera:

  1. If Wi-Fi is currently enabled, press and hold the Wi-Fi button to turn it off.
  2. Press the Middle button to activate QR scanning mode.
  3. Point the camera lens toward the QR code displayed on your smartphone.
  4. Wait until the QR code scan is completed successfully.

After successful scanning:

1)      The X5 camera will automatically connect to the configured external Wi-Fi network.

2)      The Drift Life App will redirect you to the live streaming setup page. 

Start Live Streaming

  1. Enter or paste your RTMP streaming URL in the provided field.
  2. Tap Go Live.
  3. The camera will begin broadcasting your live video stream.

 

Important Notes

After QR code scanning, the X5 series camera will save the external Wi-Fi credentials on the memory card.

  1. When the camera is restarted, it will automatically reconnect to the saved Wi-Fi network for live streaming.
  2. To exit live streaming mode and return to normal recording mode, format the camera’s memory card to remove the saved network information.
